DōTERRA: Health Claims And Harassment 2.0
In my previous post DōTERRA: Health Claims And Harassment I stated, “Unfortunately for the reps, it has also made it into the hands of consumer advocacy organizations and has been reported to the appropriate regulatory agencies.” The consumer advocacy organization I spoke of was Truth In Advertising (TINA):
“Truth in Advertising, Inc. (TINA.org) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Madison, CT, whose mission is to be the go-to online resource dedicated to empowering consumers to protect themselves and one another against false advertising and deceptive marketing. We aim to achieve our mission through investigative journalism, education, advocacy, and the promotion of truth in advertising”
TINA has a long history of collecting, documenting, and bringing awareness to deceptive marketing practices of MLMs. They do not exclusively call out MLMs but rather all deceptive marketing, but as I have stated previously in my False Claims post, false claims are intrinsic to the MLM sales pitch, that being so MLMs end up on TINA’s radar quite frequently. TINA’s ability to put pressure on regulatory agencies, and their successful track record, is why I always list them as a source to report to.
After I had brought awareness to the DōTERRA zoom and PDF, many activists reported the claims to various agencies. Another anti-MLM advocate, who runs the page essentially_over_mlms also reported the claims and TINA reached out to her. She suggested they reach out to me and one of their authors did. I helped him get the information they needed and that resulted in a fantastic article on the situation which I highly suggest reading here:
doTERRA Distributors Deceptively Promote Products For Covid-19
TINA also created a video to accompany their article:
Well just as they did to me, these reps went on the defense and copyright struck TINA’s video:
.@doterra "Wellness Advocates" won't stop making deceptive covid claims but want to silence https://t.co/Cg3tVPssuU for exposing them. #MLM https://t.co/4MyLzSS8nS pic.twitter.com/QVj54Fgnp2

Not only did TINA speak out about this copyright strike, but it’s also clear they have no plans to take this harassment laying down:
BTW, https://t.co/Cg3tVPaRDm always fights bogus copyright claims like this and we win. Every time. See the video here: https://t.co/ub3gEfGAnW https://t.co/50mbLOjtbK

“…and we win. Every time.” 🔥🔥🔥
They also followed this up by directly tagging the FTC:
.@FTC Here's the video that the they (Eliza Bacot, Dr. Tina Wong, Dr. Lisa Ma and Lauren Busch @doterra) don't want you to see. https://t.co/83MB2ND2dR

It seems these reps just don’t get the serious nature of their illegal claims, and in typical cult-style fair game and attempt information control by trying to silence criticism. And to further prove the sheer lack of comprehension one of these reps Critical Care NP Eliza Bacot, whose husband you may remember threatening to sue me, decided it was a great idea to post even more Covid claims on her Instagram theorganicsouth just days after the TINA article dropped. She has since deleted the post but, luckily, I saved the caption:
and essentially_over_mlms saved the reel:
And so the harassment and health claims continue, but so does our activism. Please take the few minutes of your day to report Eliza’s post above, and let’s make sure regulatory agencies are made aware of these harmful and illegal health claims. We can not allow misinformation like this to spread and continue to harm vulnerable people. Let’s let these reps see that we will not be bullied into silence.
